Our Commission in the Promised Land
Thieme 7/5/11 study notes to correspond with message (MP3)
Joshua 1: 6-15
Promised Land/Canaan- territory between the Mediterranean
Sea and Jordan River reaching from the brook of Egypt to the area around the
Euphrates. Whoever lived in this land controlled
the whole world at that time. This
territory had extraordinary influence being it was the only land bridge between
Mesopotamia and Egypt and between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.
The land is strategic, it is coveted and it is
valuable. Remember, this land is the
center of everything.
The Promised Land represents our minds; our mind is the
coveted Promised Land.
Beginning of Time on Earth: our promised land has to
contend with many aggressors: i.e. T.V.
images, grocery store magazines, disappointments or bad experiences of life,
abuse, tragedy, all these things potentially affect our promised land.
The truth or Word of God, the gospel, is the only way to
battle captivity in our promised land.
This is our great commission Jeremiah 1: 9-10: “The the Lord reached out
his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, ‘Now, I have put my words in your
mouth. See, today I appoint you over
nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to
build and to plant.’ “
We are given power by the Almighty God to take possession
of our land!
My time for freedom!
Psalm 31: 21 “Praise be to the Lord for he showed his
wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. In my alarm I said ‘ I am cut off from your
sight! Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.”
Darkness into light:
Isaiah 26: 1-3 “We have a strong city; God makes salvation
its walls and ramparts. Open the gates
that the righteous may enter, the nation that keeps faith. You will keep in
perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.”
Now, I’m on assignment: Joshua 1:13-
This is our great commission once we have found rest in our
promised land. That rest comes from the
Truth of God in our lives, His living word.
This rest is given after trials that we’ve grown from according to Romans
8:28 “And we know in all things God works for the good of those who love him,
who have been called according to his purpose.”
We must endeavor to grow and be used by the power of the
Holy Spirit, to recognize the giants or aggressors that are in our brothers and
sisters promised land. Pastor Darren “
Don’t be afraid of other people’s bondage”
He has equipped us by the power of the Holy Spirit to do Joshua 1: 14-15
This lines up with Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all
times and a brother is born for adversity”
and Isaiah 42 :6-7 “ I, the Lord,
have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a
covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are
blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who
sit in darkness.” Also, the great
commission Matthew 15:16-18
This freedom in our mind, our promised land, is necessary
for all humanity. I must contend for
myself, my family, my brothers and sisters in Christ, and those yet-to-be saved
to have rest in our minds, our promised land, according to the original design
of heaven for. How can we not share the
1. Our children-
never ending battle/ bathe them in Truth
We must constantly be in the Word of God to cover our minds
and never leave any area of weakness or temptation unattended. We must ask the Lord to survey our land and
show us the weak places that need to be fortified. This is our land to possess and I must
constantly contend for it!
Though our promised land is always under siege, we must understand
our inheritance by the power of the Holy Spirit and through the Word of God.
